No Water With Meals

No Water With Meals

The ancient wisdom of Ayurveda guides us to refrain from drinking water with our meals. It’s acceptable to sip room temperature water with your meal but not to drink water in any quantity. What Ayurveda suggests is to drink a large glass of water 15-30 minutes before a meal to pre-hydrate the stomach’s water-rich bicarbonate buffer layer. With a hydrated buffer layer, the stomach can produce a enough acid to properly digest your food and increase thermogenesis or generation of heat in the body which is needed for digestion. If the buffer layer doesn’t have the adequate water ratio, the stomach simply will not produce sufficient acid, recognizing that the acid will not be buffered properly. Insufficient acid causes undigested food to pass through the stomach where it irritates, congests and swells the lining of the gut and the lymph drainage vessels. The result is poor digestion, weight gain and poor health.
So drink up before your meals!

Drinking Water from a Cooper Vessel

Water is a precious substance in our lives and on the planet. Unfortunately, our water supply is contaminated in many different ways. This simple method can create healthy, healing, energized water.
Ayurveda recommends storing water in copper vessels. Benefits of copper according to ayurveda:
– Drinking water from copper cups prevents ageing, vaya-sthapak.
– Copper can destroy undesirable viruses and bacterias. When copper dissolves in water, water becomes ionic (electrolyte) which can be proven by its pH measurement. That is the reason the micro-organisms get killed in such water. This is called the Oligodynamic effect.
– Water is energized. One taste of the water from a copper cup and you will experience the energized quality of water!

Spring Breathing

Does just looking at an image like this make your nose run? As enchanting as spring is, seasonal allergies can make if difficult to enjoy the incredible weather and beauty it brings. If you are suffering, I know you’ve heard about it, and if you haven’t already tried it, the Neti Pot can do wonders to improve your discomfort. Using this simple method of flushing the sinuses can bring instant relief. There are a few pointers to consider though. Don’t overuse the Neti Pot. Once a day is plenty, preferably in the morning. It’s not a good idea to use the Neti Pot and then go to bed. Also, after using it, put a small amount of sesame oil on your little finger and rub it just inside your nostril. You can also bring some much needed soothing to the nasal passages by also using Neti Wash in your Neti Pot. It’s possible that your sinuses are dried out as well. You are taking 21,600 breaths a day, give or take a few! So another way to keep your sinuses healthy and clear is to you Nasya Oil in your nose. You simply place 5 or 6 drops in each nostril and relax with the head back for a few moments.
Happy, clear breathing!
